Saturday, April 22 is National Prescription Drug Takeback Day, and State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) and State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) are partnering with the Wheaton Police Department for a drug drop-off event at the Wheaton Police Station.
“By properly disposing of unused and expired medications, we are preventing accidental poisonings or misuse of drugs, and we are also protecting the environment,” said Senator Lewis. “I think we all have items in our medicine cabinet that we no longer need, so this provides the perfect opportunity to safely dispose of drugs and vitamins and prevent accidental harm.”
Senator Lewis’ & Representative Grant’s Prescription Drug Drop-Off Event
Saturday, April 22, 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Wheaton Police Department
900 West Liberty Drive, Wheaton
“National Drug Takeback Day gives local governments the chance to lessen the impact the opioid crisis is having on communities across the country,” said Rep Grant. “I look forward to partnering with Senator Lewis on April 22nd to reduce the over-abundance of prescription medication from medicine cabinets across the 47th District.”
Human and pet prescription and over-the-counter drugs and vitamins will be accepted, and those dropping off unused or expired medications can remain in their vehicles while event volunteers collect their items. Liquids, creams, needles, and illegal drugs will not be accepted.
National Drug Takeback Day takes place in the spring and fall of every year, and last fall more than 4,300 events nationwide led to the collection of 647,000 pounds of unneeded medication.
