State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) and State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) are partnering with the Illinois Treasurer’s Office to host an ICASH Unclaimed Property Event on Tuesday, July 14, helping residents determine whether they are owed money or property currently being held by the state.

From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., residents can meet one-on-one with a counselor from the Treasurer’s Office at the Wood Dale Public Library to search for unclaimed property, learn about the claims process, and receive assistance filing claims.

“Millions of dollars in unclaimed assets are returned to Illinois residents every year, and many people are surprised to learn they have money waiting for them,” said Lewis. “Whether it’s a forgotten bank account, an uncashed check, or funds from an inheritance, this event is an easy way to find out if any of that money belongs to you.”

The Illinois Treasurer’s Office currently holds more than $5 billion in unclaimed property, including dormant bank accounts, insurance payments, utility deposits, stock dividends, and other assets that have been turned over to the state after periods of inactivity.

“Residents should take a few minutes to check and see if they have unclaimed property,” Lewis added. “You’ve already earned it, inherited it, or owned it at some point. Our goal is to make it as simple as possible to reconnect people with what’s rightfully theirs.”
