Several park districts in DuPage and suburban Cook Counties will benefit from recently-announced Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grants.
“The 24th Senate District is home to some of the most beautiful and family-friendly parks in the state, so I was thrilled to learn that $3.7 million in OSLAD grants are coming to communities in my district,” said State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett). “Our park district commissioners are always discussing ways to improve their park systems and to make them more inclusive for all residents. These funds will go far in making great park systems even better.”
The OSLAD Program is a state-financed grant program that provides funding assistance to local government agencies for the acquisition and/or development of land for public parks and open space. Projects vary from small neighborhood parks or tot lots to large community and county parks and nature areas. The state program is financed by a percentage of the state’s Real Estate Transfer Tax.
The following park districts within the 24th Senate District received 2023 OSLAD grants:
- $600,000 – Wood Dale Park District
- $400,000 – Carol Stream Park District
- $300,000 – Bloomingdale Park District
- $600,000 – Addison Park District
- $600,000 – Itasca Park District
- $600,000 – Winfield Park District
- $600,000 – Hanover Park Park District
“Once grant agreements are in place, these park districts will get to work on their improvement projects,” added Lewis. “Residents from across this region will be able to enjoy the benefits of the completed projects.”
The OSLAD grant process is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
