On January 31, Governor JB Pritzker named School District U-46 Superintendent Dr. Tony Sanders the new Illinois State Superintendent of Education. In response to the announcement, District U-46 resident and State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) issued the following statement:
“As the parent of two successful U-46 graduates, I extend my most heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Sanders. I have known him personally for 12 years and have long considered him to be among the best in his field. He has been a valuable member of my education policy advisory group, and I have relied on his expertise on countless occasions. He is an outstanding choice for State Superintendent of Education, and I know Tony will bring the same level of dedication to his new role that he showed while leading District U-46.
“Dr. Sanders’ long-standing belief that every child can succeed will serve him well in his new role. He led District U-46 during a period of tremendous growth and change, and I have no doubt his experience in leading the state’s second-largest school district has prepared him to lead the statewide system charged with educating millions of Illinois pre-K-12 students.”
