Senator Seth Lewis Receives National Safety Council’s Advocacy in Safety Award for Illinois

State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) is pleased to announce that he has received the National Safety Council’s (NSC) Advocacy in Safety Award for Illinois. The award recognizes the impact individuals have had on safety in their communities and shows appreciation for collaborative efforts to improve workplace and roadway safety goals.

“It is a distinct honor to be recognized by the National Safety Council for my efforts to improve safety in the 24th legislative district and across Illinois,” said Lewis. “Ensuring the safety of Illinoisans on roadways and in their workplace has been a priority during my tenure in the General Assembly.”

Most recently, Lewis led an effort to address a significant safety concern in Wheaton, by filing legislation and advocating for state funds to help place a stoplight on Roosevelt Road near County Farm Road, where in recent years nine pedestrian crashes occurred, leading to one death and several more injuries. The intersection is near St. Francis College Preparatory High School, and the Marian Park Apartments, and across the street from several retail stores and the school’s parking lot. Lewis filed legislation to get the stoplight paid for and was successful in getting $250,000 into the Fiscal Year 2025 budget for the project. A public-private partnership is now in place to ensure the project work can begin.

Lewis has also been a vocal advocate in Springfield on efforts to improve overall safety and has sponsored several resolutions that seek to improve outcomes for people on the road and at work.

“The National Safety Council is a valued partner, and I will continue to work with them on bipartisan legislative solutions that make our communities safer,” added Lewis.
