Celebrate Diwali at the Illinois State Capitol
State Senator Seth Lewis invites residents to visit the Illinois State Capitol on Wednesday, November 18, to view a Diwali celebration display in the South Hall on the first floor of the Capitol. A short program will take place at 11:00 AM, and those who attend can learn about Diwali, known as the “Festival of Lights,” and its themes of joy, kindness, and good triumphing over evil.
Diwali is a time to cherish family traditions, strengthen relationships, and look ahead with optimism. It also offers a meaningful reminder of how the principles we share can bring people together and make our communities better places to live, work, and raise our families.
Those who attend will also have an opportunity to watch their state government in action, because members of the Senate and House of Representatives will be at the Capitol that day for the fall veto session. Capitol building tours will be available.
